Veneers provide the opportunity of doing three things. They have the opportunity of providing a change in the shape, they have the opportunity of providing a change in the color, and they have the opportunity of straightening the teeth. And this is all something that can be done many ways instantly.
When we are using our milling machines to make our veneers, we’re able to many times in a morning period of time place six to eight veneers on a patient’s teeth and do those three aspects. If some people want their teeth more straight or some people want their teeth more rounded, where women tend to be more rounded, men tend to be more straight, there is a combination of those. We have a book that you can look at that allows you to evaluate the different presentations of the teeth as well as being able to use the computer to put that smile on your face and see what it would look like when you’re smiling.
But that’s the main benefit to having veneers is the ability to get instant straightness, get the shape you want, and get the color that you would like to have of your teeth. The greatest appreciation that patients have is the ability to share their smile. And they really light up in that moment when they look in the mirror after the veneers are placed and you always get the wow experience because it’s generally better than what they were imagining.
As we talked about earlier, everybody loses in their future fantasy. And so when it presents in that way that it’s like, wow, that’s really amazing. I have to let them know that they can’t love them or hate them for a week because in that week’s period of time, it’s like anything else that you do.
If you go buy a car for a week, you’re looking at it, you’re looking back at it, you’re evaluating it. Is this what I want? Is it really, you know? And the same thing with your smile. When you get your veneers, you look at them and you’re not sure about this, you’re not sure about that.
And so at a week’s period of time, we have a patient come back and we sit down like, okay, where are you with your smile? How do you like it? And sometimes there’s some tweaking, a little adjusting that has to be done. Many times not.
