The benefit that implants have provided is that with the titanium’s ability to create that that connection with the bone of the patient can give lifetime longevity for the tooth. And in some patients it’s interesting how they are able to have implants healthier than their own natural teeth. It’s really an interesting aspect about how bacteria in the mouth will create more biofilm and toxins around their natural teeth than it will around the implant.
The other benefit that the implants provide too is that you don’t have to have one implant per tooth. They talked about the all-on-four technique, all-on-six technique where you could put 14, 12 teeth on four to six implants and be able to completely restore a patient’s arch of teeth with not having to have one implant per tooth. This is one of the things that that I’ve been able to accomplish since starting at the onset with implants is that when a patient has areas in their mouth, as I’ve seen them over the years, have a tooth here, a tooth there, a tooth here, in the aspects of planning the implants so that at some point they end up with six implants so they can restore their teeth, you’re not placing implants right next to each other all throughout the patient’s mouth, realizing that at some point this tooth could be an issue, this tooth could be an issue, and it’s planned pretty much from the onset that at some point if they have issues with these other teeth, the implant placement then provides the opportunity for a full set of teeth without having to have a full set of implants.
